Cortez is located in Southwest Colorado in the four corners region of the state, about 45 miles west of Durango. Cortez, along with Delores and Mancos, is known as Mesa Verde Country, and is located 8 miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. Other main attractions include Canyons of the Ancients National Monument, which allows mountain biking, and Hovenweep National Monument. With the development of the Phil’s World mountain bike trail system and more recently the Boggy Draw trails near Delores, this area is known for it’s mountain biking. Road riders can ride in Mesa Verde or take advantage of the two national scenic byways: Trail of the Ancients National Scenic Byway (the only one in North America dedicated to archaeology) and the San Juan Skyway, also known as “America’s Most Beautiful Drive.” There is so much to do in this area – discover archeological sites, visit vineyards, take a Western adventure at a guest ranch, hike, fish, golf – just to name a few!
