Montrose is located 60 miles south of Grand Junction in Montrose County. It is the most densely populated city in Montrose county with a population of over 20,000 and sits at an elevation of 5807 at the south end of the Unocompaghre valley.  With the Uncompahgre River running through town, the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park to the east, the San Juan Mountains to the south, the Uncompahgre Plateau to the west and Grand Mesa to the north, Montrose has many opportunities for outdoor recreation including biking, climbing, fishing, golfing, hiking, hunting, off-roading, river rafting and kayaking as well as skiing.
