Ridgway is located less than 30 miles south of Montrose on Highway 550, and is known as the Gateway to the San Juans and the Swizerland of America. The town is situated in the Uncompaghre Valley and is surrounded by the Cimarrons and San Juans, some of the most photographed mountains in the world. Ridgway is a designated Creative District and there are abundant outdoor activities including hiking; running; golfing; off-roading; rafting, boating and fishing and stand up paddle boarding (SUP) on the nearby Ridgway Reservoir; hot air ballooning; and ice climbing. With the development of the Ridgway Area Trails, the town now has world-class singletrack mountain bike trails. Ridgway is located at the northern entrance of the San Juan Scenic and Historic Byway, one of America’s most spectacular highways offering several world class road rides.
